Description
Advertising store card in the form of a Swastika-bearing “Good Luck Talisman” (Good Luck Token), from the Whitehead & Hoag Company, prolific maker of many similar tokens in the early 20th
Century. 27mm, appears to be Bronze rather than Brass, apparently never Gilt. 1927 Copyright date. The term used on the stock Reverse, "Swacade" apparently refers to the two symbols on this side, the Swa(stika) and Cad(euces), and this die was used on similar tokens struck for various users/events in the 1920's.
The advertising store card version I would judge as RARE
– I have never seen another in 20 years of buying exonumia, and similar good luck tokens in particular. That does not mean I have seen it all, and perhaps the East Coast origin on this piece limits my potential exposure, however this is certainly NOT a common piece. Presumably given away to those who had job lots of tokens struck by the firm, or proselytizing for similar work.
